Cygnus Rock Band - Hear the Call of the Gods (Revival)

Another beautiful song that is underrated.

Indeed it's one of those Cygnus-songs that won't hit you right at the first listening. It's not Odin's Wolves or The One-eyed Wanderer that melt your heart immediately. This song is very unique, I'm thinking here whether Cygnus ever had a song earlier with a structure like this.

I don't remember now, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Very unique, very intense, and very spiritual (I would even call it transcendental), it has got a deep vibration. It starts with a single humane voice (Deneb is singing) and it already brings goosebumps right here. The vocals get the company of a single cello

how beautifully they complete each other!

this way Deneb's rich baritone resonates even deeper. For the bridge other strings join them

what I find especially enchanting here is that there's nothing else behind the humane voice, only the strings. No drums, no bass, no rhythm section, no any other instrument, only the strings that enrich the sound and broaden the depth of it.

and we are just at the beginning of the song. It's only one and a half minutes here and an almost 10-minute-long wonder is waiting for the listener.

The chorus makes all those instruments sing that kept silent until then, in awe of the aethereal magic of the humane vocals and the strings. All together, the guitars, the rhyhtm section, the orchestra and even Ruxx's sharp tenor at this point already bring a catharsis.

Those who are receptive for such experiences already have goosebumps all over. With tears.

The second stanza brings again Deneb's now echoing vocals with the cello as well as the drums, giving a certain pulsation to the deep, transcendental ambience. Even the bass shows itself with long-resonating sounds, further deepening the already profound spirituality of the song.

For a bass fan, like myself, it's heaven. No radioactivity, no gruntling at all this time, just the pure sound of the bass, surrounded by this unusual, beautiful musical environment. What a masterpiece.... 💗

...and let me guess, I will be able to count on one hand how many of you out there are able to comprehend it 😒

The bridge quietens the rhythm section, again it's only the humane voice and the string instruments, with just a few cymbals whisper into the listener's ear. The chorus again hits with its all might, the guitars, the orchestration and both singers.
And then comes the greatest magic, one of this album's gems.
It's supposed to be the solo, but... It's something Cygnus has never made so far. It's not a solo, it's more like an interlude. The listener just gazes in awe as the sound of the different percussions

hail, Ruxx!

dances around with the man-made whispers, screams and growls. They are surrounded with ambiental noises, as if the listener would really be walking in a forest.

This... this is magical. For me this is one of the most wonderful and creative ideas on this album. This is not just a real catharsis, but for me personally it's getting to know another side of these wonderful musicians. And if there's anything that makes me really happy in this world is to find out that my favorite band's members are even greater geniuses as I had thought.

Then comes a very powerful part for the 3rd stanza. All instruments as well as the entire orchestra are present, the two singers, Deneb and Ruxx sing on a clear, strong voice

I tend to call this part as "the Lothlórien choir"

and there's something magical in it, that after the deeply vibrating, (for me) shamanistic-transcendental interlude comes this heavenly, divine, clear-singing choir, the contrast between them and still how beautifully they complete each other.
...and then the 3rd chorus sweeps the listener off of their feet.
Finally comes an actual guitar solo, accompanied by a fantastic performance by Ruxx in the background, they - along with the orchestra - complete the song.

I would like to say a few words about the lyrics as well, because they give the actual spiritual message of the song.
It came to my mind and I'm still playing with this thought, but it's kind of like the Credo of all pagans and heathens.

I know that you have no idea what the "Credo" is, so I explain it to you, dear not-educated-enough wanderer of the cyberspace. In Christianity there are prayers, I hope that's clear for you. There's "Our Father", there's "Hail Mary" and there's the "Credo". It's practically the statement of the religious faith by the believer.

I won't confuse you now that there's a so-called Nicene Credo and the Apostles' Credo, because I know that by default this information above  is already too much for your mouldering brain; may it be enough that the believer states his/her belief in the Absolute Truth, may we call that God, Odin or Big Flying Spaghetti Monster.

For me the uniqueness of these lyrics comes from its deep, personal point of view. Cygnus already had quite a number of religious songs - like Lady Hél, The One-eyed Wanderer, Sleipnir, Fenrir the Wolf, Ulfberht, just to mention a few - that are in fact glorifying prayers. Yet so far none of their songs was about the actual experiencing of pagan (or polyteistic) faith, what it's like, how it feels to be a heathen. The lyrics beautifully describe the experience of being one with Nature surrounding the believer, and instead of fearing the gods

as it often appears in monotheistic religions

the believer, the religious person actually walks by their side, not placing themself under them, nor placing them above themself. This personal - and realistic, true - approach for me is the other reason why I think this song is the hidden gem of the album (after Sealed Fate, because that's the no. 1. for me, without a doubt).
