Cygnus Rock Band - teaser trailer for "The Forging of Mjölnir" (musings)
It's not the usual video or song review this time, dear Reader. This blogpost now is rather a walk down on Memory Lane.
Last week - on March 16th, to be precise, almost a week ago - was the 2nd anniversary of the release of a tiny video. One may even overlook it. It wasn't released on YouTube, in fact it was just a small post on FB and Instagram. The band even asked us, fans to share it, spread it - we even got permission to download it and share it on our own profiles.
It was a teaser trailer video for the bands then-upcoming great video, "The Forging of Mjölnir", one of their greatest songs and one of the gems of their 2nd Viking album, "Fire and Tales".
Yes, there was a reason why this video was released such a long time after the album's release - I will discuss it in an upcoming blogpost that's dedicated entirely for the video.
I remember, the band even made a small contests for fans: those who shared this video the most, tagged the most possible friends/followers/enemies/anyone else into these posts, or even tagged their friends/followers/pets/family members/co-workers/anyone else into the comment section of the band's original post had the chance to watch the video before the official release.
Yes, this humble chronicler was among them.
Yes, I was the happiest ever person in this world and I still am. "The Forging of Mjölnir" is my most favorite Cygnus-video of all times the Viking era.
The truth is, I have some favorite videos by Cygnus from the pre-Viking era as well. Some of them I'm massively in love with.
No, I will not tell anyone about them.
They are my secret.
My precious.
MIYAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA
*evil Eastern European laughter*
But the truth is
this is my own opinion, and it's one of those cases when I don't accept any different opinion
that this small teaser trailer is a gem in itself. It's so beautiful that it deserves its own blogpost, its own praising words. It deserves all the love I (we) can offer to it.
This is it. Less than a minute, it appears, and then it disappears - just like every little miracle Cygnus has ever shared with the public.
But this less-than-a-minute-long video (53 seconds, to be precise) is a pure essence of Cygnus's beauty. Everything I love this band for.
Okay, not everything, because if I wanted to make a list of all the reasons why I love this band, we'd sit here until the day after tomorrow.
Everything is hand-made and organic in this video. Everything is made by the band, the animation and the music as well.
By Deneb, in fact.
Yes, dear Reader. Every little piece, every second of this video was put together by Cygnus's bassist-singer-songwriter-composer-band leader and full-time Magician.
I remember - and I write it down with the pure intention to keep it in memory, because just a few days ago Cygnus made a post on their social media profiles with the same music, and someone very dear and important said "it was a gently reminder of its existence!!!"
You know who you are 😉
So, I want to write down here this memory, because it deserves to be remembered, to remind us all the dedication, love, passion and determination this band, and especially Deneb has got in himself.
Back at that time Deneb had a very demanding daily job. (I won't get into details - if you know, you know; if you don't know, believe me, it's better that way.) That type that pretty much kills your soul on a daily basis. And this wonderful, amazing bass player/composer used the mandatory resting times of his work days as well as those "breathing spaces" between two tasks to make the animation of this teaser trailer, to compose, orchestrate, record and arrange the music and finally to put these two together.
Imagine yourself working every day e.g. at the service counter of a fast food restaurant, where long rows are waiting every day with hungry, often impatient and rude people, and you have to keep smiling and keep being polite, regardless of how rude or demanding they are, keeping all their smaller and bigger requests in mind (or else they throw a temper tantrum) - and then, when you have your well-deserved resting break, instead of putting up your feet and having a pause, you sit above your laptop and edit a video you want to share with your followers.
Because you're this dedicated.
Knowing this, keeping it all in mind this little video, these 53 seconds of wonderful images and animation, and beautiful, epic music is a million times dearer and more beautiful than it seems at first glance - though even then, when I saw it first it swept me off my feet. I remember how much it hit me with its beauty. This beauty (and the story behind it, the commitment, the devotion, the small details, the caring, gentle touch that was tangible in every second of it) made me not only sharing it all over my social media pages, wherever I could, pretty much flooding/spamming everyone around me
not that I cared for their possible reactions
but also listening to "The Forging of Mjölnir" on repeat from the moment of the release of this little teaser trailer to the release of the video itself, that eventually happened on April 1, 2023.
The next blogpost will be about that video! Stay tuned!!!
